Dodge Charger will receive a 550-hp Hurricane inline-six gasoline engine in 2025

The gas-powered Dodge Charger isn’t dead yet. Although the V-8 is gone, Dodge will continue to offer the Charger an internal combustion engine alongside the two new electric variants revealed today.

At the top of the internal combustion food chain is the Dodge Charger Sixpack HO. It is powered by Stellantis’ 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, rated at 550 horsepower. There is also a Sixpack SO version with 420 horsepower.

“Dodge Charger Sixpack models powered by the Hurricane engine will give the Brotherhood of Muscle a gasoline option that produces better horsepower and torque than the outgoing 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter HEMI engines,” said CEO Tim Kuniskis.

At the end of production, the naturally aspirated 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V8s available in the Charger produced 370 hp and 485 hp, respectively.

Like the electric versions, the new gas-powered Charger will get all-wheel drive as standard, with driving modes that channel all power to the rear wheels. The car will ride on the company’s STLA Large platform, meaning it should be 20 percent stiffer than the outgoing model.

While Dodge is focused on launching the electric Charger Daytona, there isn’t much information on other specs, performance metrics, or pricing. We can tell you it will be an eight-speed automatic-only affair, just like the last-generation car.

Dodge says all Chargers will be built at its Windsor, Ontario assembly plant. Production of the electric version will begin in mid-2024, while that of the gasoline variants will begin in the first quarter of 2025.
