Microsoft Edge brings a web capture feature using which you can capture a selected area of a web page or capture an entire web page by taking a scrolling screenshot and save it as a JPEG image. Although the functionality is good, many users use other screenshot tools or prefer third-party extensions. If you do not use this feature either and want to disable Web Capture in Microsoft Edge, then this article is useful.
You can take the help of Windows 10 registry editor to completely disable Web Capture. Once the web capture function is deactivated, its option present in Settings and more will be grayed out. In addition, neither its keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + S) will work nor the option of Show web capture button present under Settings will work. Later you can also activate it at any time.
Disable web capture in Edge
Before you start, it’s a good idea to back up the registry, so that if something goes wrong, you can restore it. After that, follow these steps:
- Open Registry Editor window
- Access Microsoft Registration key
- Create a new Edge key
- Create WebCaptureEnabled DWORD value.
Click on the Windows 10 search box, type regedit there, and press the Enter key. This will launch or open the Registry Editor window.
Access Microsoft Registration key. Here is its path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoft
Under this key, create a new Edge key. To do this, right click on the Microsoft key, use the New menu, and click on the Key option. After creating the new key, set its name to Edge.
Once the Edge key is created, select this key, right click on an empty area in the right section, navigate to the New and click the DWORD (32-bit) value option. It will create new value. Just rename it to WebCaptureEnabled value.
Now restart the Edge browser or close and reopen it if it is already open. You will notice that Web Capture no longer works. It is off.
To re-enable Web Capture in the Edge browser, follow the steps above and then remove the WebCaptureEnabled DWORD value.
