Dillian Whyte 27-1 (18) puts pressure on Tyson Fury 30-0-1 (21) to defend his WBC heavyweight crown against him, claiming that he has abandoned the so-called Gypsy King “repeatedly” in combat.
Whyte was installed as a mandatory challenger for the green belt, but Fury has until next February to face him.
Fury is expected to directly participate in a rematch with Deontay Wilder to complete his trilogy when resuming boxing before a potential four-belt unification fight with WBA, IBF and WBO champion Anthony Joshua 23-1 (21).
Whyte, 32, waiting for his fight against Russian veteran Alexander Povetkin to be postponed, says Fury must stop talking and just fight.
“He just needs to stop talking about garbage and let’s go. It will be a major fight. Let’s get it out,” explained Whyte Sky Sports.
“He’s the one who came out and said he beat me in the gym and stuff like that. I can tell you now that it didn’t happen. I don’t like to tell fight stories , but the people in the game know it. They know me.
“Well, Tyson Fury and I fought and denounced him and dropped him several times. As simple as that.
“If I was such an easy fight, why isn’t he in a hurry to fight?” He said before I beat Wilder, when I beat Wilder, I’m going to give Dillian Whyte his title shot. He’s just talking about garbage.
“It’s war, let’s go.”
Whyte’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, added support for the fight.
“Whyte has been ordered to fight for the WBC title before the end of February, so this is a major problem for them [Fury],” he said Sky Sports.
“If for some reason Wilder is not available to fight Fury, then Whyte must get this fight now. Why not?
“It’s an incredible fight, two Britons are fighting for the WBC title. Then a cast iron certainty of two Britons fighting for the undisputed championship in 2021.
“I would love to see Fury step up and fight Whyte, but I understand that he has contractual obligations with Wilder.
“Dillian is right in the mix and we will fight in his corner. The WBC has promised us and we expect them to honor it. We have done our best in this regard. “
