Michelle Yeoh was approached by Jackie Chan after everything, everywhere succeeded at once
Michelle Yeoh revealed that seeing how famous Everything everywhere all at once started, Jackie Chan texted him. The two have been friends for a long time now. She confirmed that the film was originally going to focus on a male rather than a female lead. The storyline was crafted keeping in mind that Jackie Chan will play the protagonist with Yeoh’s character playing his wife.

“They wrote it that way, with Jackie and me as their wife. The roles were therefore completely reversed. I remember Jackie texting me and saying, “Congratulations! You know your boys came to see me first. I’m like, ‘thank you bro, you did me a huge favor.'”
The actress confirmed that the Daniels changed the script after approaching Chan. Her rejection of the film purely benefited Yeoh and gave her the opportunity to be nominated for an Oscar. Seeing that the role could very easily have been taken away from the actress before, she was genuinely happy to know that he walked away from the role and she got it instead.
