“The Green Knight” star Dev Patel has launched his own production company, Minor Realm, whose mission is to “explore and develop the creative landscape of voices and talents that are too often overlooked, bringing these to life. stories more broadly. “
Patel has already hired two people for the new banner: Sony Pictures’ Lakshmi Iyengar and producer Samarth Sahni, both of whom will report directly to Patel.
Minor Realm, which will focus on both film and television, already has a first agreement with ShivHans Pictures, developing and creating projects with CEO and founder of ShivHans, Shivani Rawat, and president of production Julie Goldstein.
Iyengar most recently served as Sony Pictures’ vice president of global acquisitions and production, working on films such as “Ammonite”, “Late Night” and “The Wedding Guest”, in which Patel starred. During her career, she also worked at Universal Pictures and Focus Features.
At Minor Realm, Iyengar will assume the role of Executive Vice President, responsible for production and development, overseeing the film and television development roster.
Sahni joins Minor Realm as Executive Vice President, Production, Film and Television Project Production. He has already worked on major studio releases including “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” and “Life of Pi”.
Sahni is a producer on Patel’s directorial debut, “Monkey Man,” which was recently acquired by Netflix. He was also a producer on “The Wedding Guest” and Patel’s short film “Home Shopper”.
“There are so many stories and critical visions of incredibly talented minds that need to be told, but too often there is no possibility or opportunity to do so,” Patel said in a statement. “Our passion at Minor Realm is to nurture and champion these creatives. Lakshmi and Samarth both have solid backgrounds in developing a wide range of content and I couldn’t think of two better executives to work with.
Rawat added, “We are delighted with the expansion of Minor Realm and the opportunity for ShivHans Pictures to continue to partner with such a creative team. Their vision perfectly complements the storytelling we seek to produce and we look forward to developing and presenting important voices and content to audiences. ”
Iyengar and Sahni will be based in Los Angeles.
