The NFL world awaits a decision on the status of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson for the 2022 season, as the league appealed the six-game suspension that disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson imposed due to allegations of sexual misconduct. The general consensus is that the NFL will retaliate with a harsher punishment, but there would be a middle ground that could eventually satisfy both sides.

According to the Associated Press, Watson would accept an eight-game suspension and a $5 million fine. It could come in the form of a settlement, but the idea is that the NFL will come down on Watson much harder. The league reportedly argued for Robinson to initially grant an indefinite suspension. In the appeal process, however, it is not Robinson who will make the final decision, but former New Jersey Attorney General Peter C. Harvey, who was appointed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Once again, the NFL will be looking for a indefinite suspension of at least one yearplus a fine, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.

Commissioner Goodell spoke about the Watson case this week, saying the quarterback’s actions were “blatant” and that he exhibited “predatory behavior”. He also called for a season-long ban.

“We have seen the evidence. [Disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson] was very clear about the evidence, should we apply the evidence. That there were multiple violations here, and they were egregious, and that was predatory behavior,” Goodell said, via NFL.com.

This appeal decision must be made quickly, and it has been more than a week since the league made the decision to challenge Robinson’s decision. While Harvey’s decision is final, there have been conflicting reports regarding the NFLPA and whether they will decide to sue the NFL for the federal court decision.

What’s interesting is that the Browns kick off the preseason on Friday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Currently, Watson is eligible to play in the game – and the Browns have announced their intention to start it. However, if the NFL makes its decision in the next 24 hours, it could prevent him from getting dressed.
