Johnny Depp is experiencing the longest break of his career since arriving in Hollywood. Even with his defamation case with Amber Heard settled, fans were wondering when he would step in front of the camera again. This happened at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, when Depp and director Maïwenn revealed Jeanne du Barrythe actor’s first film since the 2020s Minimal. Today, Depp is paying tribute to his director for standing by his side and giving him a chance that even some of his closest collaborators were hesitant about.

Posting on Instagram, Depp shared a photo from a red carpet event for Jeanne du Barry – in which he plays Louis XV – accompanied by the following caption: “Infinitely grateful to the incomparable Maïwenn for choosing me as the King of France in ‘Jeanne du Barry’. Currently performing in the UK and Ireland. JD.X”

While we are still awaiting confirmation whether or not Johnny Depp will return to Disney after their falling out, the actor is indeed seeking to mark his return to the cinema.
