Del Solar hits one of the lowest rounds in golf history

Cristobal del Solar had one of the lowest scores in professional golf history when he shot a 13-under-par 57 at the Astara Championship in Colombia.

The Chilean, 30, made two eagles and nine birdies in the opening round of the Korn Ferry Tour event, the development circuit beneath the PGA Tour.

The Pacos Course at Bogata Country Club is the shortest on the circuit and rises to almost 9,000 feet (2,743 m) above sea level.

Ireland’s David Carey reached the only other 57 on a professional tour.

His tour took place at the Cervino Open in 2019 on the Alp Tour, the third tier in Europe after the European Tour.

Jim Furyk’s 58 at the Travelers Championship in 2016 is the lowest round on the PGA Tour.

He was matched last year by Bryson DeChambeau at a LIV Golf event while Ryo Ishikawa and Kim Seong-hyeon shot 58s on the Japan Tour.

Del Solar’s round is the best in a PGA Tour sanctioned event.

The 30-year-old, ranked 259th in the world, could have gone lower but missed a 15-foot putt for birdie on the par-four 18th, meaning he aced the final three holes.
