Billie Eilish says she lost 100,000 social media followers because her much-commented style change revealed she had big boobs.
The 19-year-old singer shocked fans when she swapped her traditionally loose, sportswear-influenced style for body-hugging outfits, revealing outfits in a photoshoot in May for British Vogue.
Famous for her neon green hair and androgynous style, Eilish suddenly channeled Marilyn Monroe – and the reaction, it seems, was immediate.
Talk to Elle Magazine, Eilish said she lost around 100,000 followers on her social media account after the photoshoot was posted, leaving her “dehumanized.”
“People hold onto these memories and have an attachment,” she said of her old baggy style.
“But it’s very dehumanizing.”
“I lost 100,000 subscribers just because of the breasts. People are afraid of big breasts.
“People are afraid of big breasts. “
She said it made her feel like people only cared about her “look” and her body – not her music.
Eilish told the post that she was fed up with her shiny hair making her stand out, dyeing her hair blonde so she could “blend in” when in public.
“I wasn’t meant to ‘This is going to make everyone think differently from me’,” she said.
“I’ve had different colored hair and vibes for everything I’ve done.
“The other day I posted a video from when I had green hair and saw people say ‘I miss that Billie, the green haired Billie’.
“I’m still the same person. I’m not just different Barbies with different heads.
While some seem to be reeling from Eilish’s transformation, a pop star is not.
Madonna, herself the queen of reinventing herself, spoke for Eilish in the same She article.
“The problem is, we live in a very sexist world where women are categorized,” she said.
“You are either in the virgin category or in the w *** e category.
“Billie started out in a non-sexualized category, not bending over to the masses and not using her sexuality in any way, which is her choice and God bless her for that.
“After all, she’s been a teenager all this time.
“But if she wants to turn around and take pictures where she is portrayed as a feminine woman, showing her body in a way she hasn’t in the past, then why should she be punished for it?”
“Women should be able to present themselves as they wish. “
Eilish agreed, saying it was natural for people to cut and change their look depending on her age.
“You’re not even supposed to really know who you are until you’re at least my age or older.” “
Eilish recently caused a stir at the Met Gala in New York City, channeling Old Hollywood glamor on the red carpet with a puffy Marilyn-style blonde hairstyle and wearing a dramatic peach-colored Oscar de la Renta gown.
