The 49ers beat the Rams 24-9 on Monday night, and as you’d expect from the Niners’ wins over the past two seasons, star receiver Deebo Samuel was a huge reason why. Samuel had 117 receiving yards with six receptions, including an incredible 57-yard touchdown. Samuel had to stop all of his forward momentum to jump and make the catch inside 49ers territory before breaking several tackles on his way to the end zone.

At one point during the game, star Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey looked like he was in the perfect position to make the tackle, but he dove at Samuel’s feet and barely slowed him down. Several people on social media immediately joked about Ramsey’s “trade decision”, including Niners Nation’s Akash Anavarathan and Rob Guerrera. Several 49ers also took note of Ramsey’s failed effort.

After the game, as @swifty_gamez90 first noticed on TikTok, 49ers right tackle Mike McGlinchey approached Ramsey and pointed at Samuel before he was pushed away. We obviously don’t know what McGlinchey said, but it seems reasonable to assume it had something to do with the corner’s inability to bring down Samuel in the previous game.

“Yeah, I don’t know what he was doing there,” Samuel said in his post-match press conference when asked about Ramsey’s attempt to tackle him. “I just walked past him. He was just backing up. I was like, ‘What’s going on?'”

Ramsey has long been considered the best cornerback in the NFL due to his unique combination of athleticism and physicality in coverage and the open field. However, on Monday night, Ramsey wanted no part of Samuel when he rushed the pitch towards him.
