Debbie Harry, 75, announces Blondie will be touring the UK in 2021 … as she reveals the band have been working on new music during the pandemic

At age 75, most people get up and enjoy retirement.

But Debbie Harry is not your typical septuagenarian.

The lead singer of American rock band Blondie has announced that he will cross the pond to perform ten dates in cities across the UK in November.

Exciting! Debbie Harry has revealed that the group Blondie are set to tour the UK in 2021 (the LRs pictured are Tommy Kessler, Matt Katz-Bohen, Clem Burke, Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Leigh Foxx)

Debbie, who formed the group with guitarist Chris Stein in 1974, said breaking the news during a pandemic was a ‘sign of positive thinking’ as she also revealed they were working on the news music.

She said: ‘I miss being in the UK terribly and would really love to tour again and play some music. It’s going to be a long time before I can do anything.

“It was a very abrupt transition – there really wasn’t a transition. Suddenly he was cut. I was supposed to go back to work on March 4th and boom, it was gone.

The band’s last album was Pollinator in 2017.

Debbie added: “ We started working on new material but because of the ban we didn’t try to enter the studio as a band. I think it’s all theoretical actually.

Blondie, whose biggest hits include Call Me, Atomic, Heart of Glass and Sunday Girl, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

The group will perform across the UK in cities including London, Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow.

The announcement comes after Debbie revealed that she was struggling to keep up with her former heroin addiction as she despised having to buy the drugs on her own.

The 75-year-old Blondie star admitted that even in her prime, her drug use was intermittent as she refused to take anything while in work mode.

Comparing herself to late singer Amy Winehouse, she told ES Magazine in April: ‘I didn’t take drugs when I was working, so when I was working I didn’t take drugs. It wasn’t like me, what’s her name? She didn’t want to go to rehab …

“Drugs are a fun thing. What drove me not to take them was having to acquire them and what a drag it was.

“It was kind of a full time job and a waste of time. It became unpleasant. Lucky for me, I was able to handle the withdrawal.

Among his past painful experiences, he escaped an attempted kidnapping of serial killer Ted Bundy and lost almost all of the money she made selling 40 million albums due to poor management transactions and tax invoices.

During her extensive interview, the iconic musician spoke candidly about being considered a pioneering icon for women in rock.

“I said in the songs things that the singers weren’t really saying at the time,” she wrote in her book about the early years of her band.
