DAZN is expected to launch in the UK in May as part of its new global streaming service.
The OTT platform, which belongs to billionaire Len Blavatnik and has been dubbed “ Netflix of Sport ”, is currently active in nine countries / territories, but will now expand to more than 200 – starting with the next fight in the book for boxing. King of the Book, Canelo Alvarez, May 2.
A press release said, “This first phase of DAZN’s global expansion will be a boxing-focused service in English, building on the company’s significant investment in sport over the past two years.
“DAZN owns the international rights to many of the world’s best promotion companies, including Golden Boy Promotions, Matchroom Boxing USA and GGG Promotions.
“Fighters like Alvarez and Gennady” GGG “Golovkin will be part of a robust portfolio of premium fights and original programming on the new service throughout the year.”
For DAZN UK – the price should start at £ 4.99 or £ 9.99 per month.
DAZN Group Executive Chairman John Skipper said, “Starting this spring, most people will have access to DAZN and its unparalleled calendar of boxing events.
“Our list of championship fighters represents some of the most popular athletes in the world and we will work with them to organize spectacular international events for years to come.”
DAZN Executive Vice President Joseph Markowski, who will oversee global service, added: “This is just the start.
“In the first phase, we will be hosting major boxing events around the world to attract fans to our service, and then add more sports as these opportunities arise.”
From a football perspective, DAZN already has a decent presence abroad.
They are now expected to make major deals in the Premier League and Champions League in the UK.
DAZN recently won the rights to the Champions League football in Germany from 2021, ending Sky’s ownership for two decades.
They also have rights in the Champions League and the Premier League in Canada and Japan.
Skipper previously said, “The UK is a logical DAZN market. In terms of rights in this country, you obviously need Premier League rights, boxing is very important here and tennis is very important here. “
