David Walliams has revealed how Elton John proposed to sing at his 50th birthday party.
Britain’s Got Talent author and judge spoke to Lorraine on Wednesday about how world superstar Elton put on a “surprise” performance at his party in September.
He revealed that he hadn’t told anyone about the singer’s planned performance and that Elton had dedicated a song to his mother, Kathleen.
The event saw stars such as Rob Brydon, BGT judge Amanda Holden and Ant and Dec attended the hotel party in London, the Mirror reported.
TV presenter Lorraine asked David about his birthday party, she said, “Did Elton John sing to you?”
David joked, “Yeah, I don’t know if you’ve heard of him, he’s a promising singer. He’s just started so I thought I would give him a break.
“No, he just proposed,” David added: “He said somebody was performing on your birthday and I said no and he said“ Oh I will, I will do three songs ”, then he made Your Song and dedicated it to my mom and put his mom Kathleen in the song … which was amazing. “
“I didn’t tell anyone he was going to do it because I thought otherwise people would just say ‘when is Elton coming by? “and ‘oh he only did three songs’ so it was amazing because it was a total surprise.
“What an incredible gift for him to give me! He is a very lovely man.”
Lorraine is broadcast during the week on ITV from 9 a.m.
