David de Gea has been criticized as “arrogant” after his big mistake in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Everton.
The goalkeeper gave the Toffees an early lead at Goodison Park on Sunday with his last stick error, which was punished by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Receiving the ball in his area from a teammate, De Gea lingered on the ball for seven seconds before trying to put it back on the field.
But those seven seconds, despite the number of short pass options available, allowed Calvert-Lewin to close it and his attempt to kick hit the striker and rebounded directly into United’s goal.

It was a disastrous moment for the Spanish number one. De Gea is no longer the reliable back brick wall for United, and his mistakes are not really a surprise these days.
In fact, this blunder meant that De Gea now ranks at the top of the list for most goal errors since the start of the 2018/19 season, with seven.
De Gea continued to make a number of vital stops during the remainder of the match, while United struggled to claim a 1-1 draw, saved by a late VAR check that ruled out a dramatic winner from Everton .
But TalkSPORT host and former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara was not impressed with the goalkeeper’s “unacceptable” behavior at the start of Merseyside.
And he thinks the Spaniard’s arrogance costs Manchester United.
“De Gea is paid to make good stops,” said O’Hara at the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“He has a lot of money. It should stop at crucial moments in the games, and what you can’t accept is that it does what it does, where it took seven seconds – do it quickly!
“It’s unacceptable, it’s something you see outside the league and even then you would be mad at your goalkeeper for doing something like this.
“A player like David de Gea cannot afford to make such a mistake.
“He is arrogant to me. That’s his problem, he’s arrogant. He thinks he’s better than he really is. “
There are great doubts about the future of De Gea as number one in United, with 22-year-old Dean Henderson on loan on loan to Sheffield United.
The young Englishman has even more clean sheets in the Premier League this season, with nine for the Blades. De Gea only has seven for United.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer supported the Spaniard and insisted that he is still the BEST goalkeeper in the world.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer said, “We want the best team possible for Man United. David, for me, is the best goalkeeper in the world.
“Dean is a very good challenger and Sergio is also a challenger. We want a full quality team with competition of course and if you want to survive at the top, you have to bounce back from the competition from right, left and center.
“Dean is our player. He’s doing very well right now and the day he’s back, he’s obviously fighting to play here too. But for me, David showed his reaction on Sunday and how he made amends and saved that chance from Sigurdsson in the end.
“He had a tough time last season, but David has been very, very good this season. I really don’t remember any mistakes apart from Watford’s. I trust him 100% in the objective. “
