Both clubs see the opportunity to sign such an experienced goalkeeper for free as an ideal way to improve their goalkeeping ranks.
Betis are going through something of a crisis with Rui Silva injured and 40-year-old Claudio Bravo just returning from dismissal, meaning De Gea could prove much more reliable.
Meanwhile, Valencia could benefit from top competition from young Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The report claims that Betis’ needs and Valencia’s financial situation make the Sevilla club a more likely destination, while adding that De Gea has turned down “several teams” in favor of a return home, which could now be imminent.
