Beckham watched England rout Iran and will be in Qatar again for the game against the United States
Gareth Southgate’s side kicked off their campaign with an impressive 6-2 win over Iran, and Beckham is expecting another solid performance against the United States on Friday night in their second Group B match.
Beckham, who has won 115 caps for England and played in three World Cups, said he was “really excited” about the current crop.
“The England team are in good form,” he said.
“We had a good start to the tournament and the guys are feeling good, they look good.
“The mood is great between them all and the fans are feeling that, so the fans are reacting to that. The excitement will now build towards this game tonight.
It’s well documented that England haven’t won a major tournament since 1966, but they are closing in after reaching the semi-finals of the last World Cup and the Euro 2020 final.
Asked if England have a great opportunity at this World Cup, Beckham replied: “Yes, we have. It’s a great opportunity for a lot of players.
“You saw the other night, we have a strong starting XI but it’s not just about the starting XI, we have a strong bench.
“When you see Jack [Grealish] and when you see Phil [Foden] come off the bench, those things are important in a tournament like this and I’m delighted with tonight.
