Last week, a photo resurfaced of a 14-year-old Jerry Jones with a group of students from his alma mater, North Little Rock High School, protesting six black students who were integrating into the school.
Jones said he wasn’t actively protesting, but rather was there as “a more curious thing.”
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott admitted on Thursday that he hadn’t “fully addressed” the photo and any potential controversy surrounding it, but gave the team owner the benefit of the doubt in a lengthy response to reporters.

“Obviously, we can be more empathetic and grace each other, regardless of our race,” Prescott said. “From when we came to where we are now, thinking about the growth we’ve had. It’s who I am, how I think, optimistic. I mean [as] a guy who is completely biracial, black and white, it’s easy for me to talk about race one way or the other. …I don’t know if I fully processed it through to the end, honestly.”
“In the same sense, it was 65 years ago and how times have changed,” he continued. “I mean, look at the man’s resume since then, right? Like I said, I give thanks. I think it’s a conversation and a question not just for him but for you guys and how you all feel and how responsible you all have been in covering up and discussing racial disparities and differences.”
“Like I said, I’m here to grow, to give grace, and to try to make this world a better place,” Prescott added. “It’s who I am deep inside and what I believe in. Unfortunately, things come up from the past, images, and they show how far we’ve come, but in the same sense, they remind us of how much He doesn’t ‘not so long ago, we were all sitting on different sides, and we weren’t together. But like I said, I wouldn’t be here if it was always like this. believe in grace and peace. These are questions for Jerry for all of you, honestly, that I don’t quite have the answers to.
RESURFACE PHOTO SHOWS YOUNG JERRY JONES WITH STUDENTS TRYING TO KEEP ARKANSAS SCHOOL SEPARATE
The protest, which took place shortly after the Little Rock Nine event a few miles away, was “successful” in the event that the six students went to another school, and North Little Rock was not officially integrated only in 1964.
“It was, my God, 65 years ago, and curious child, I didn’t know at the time the monumental event that was unfolding,” Jones said on Thanksgiving night. “I’m really glad we’re away from that. I am. It would remind me: just keep doing everything we can to make sure this stuff doesn’t happen.”
