If you’re reading this, Cyberpunk 2077 has officially launched worldwide. With the launch of perhaps the most anticipated game of the year, it looks like the sudden rush of gamers trying to start and / or download the game has led both Steam and CD Projekt to encounter lingering technical issues. This has kept at least some players from completing the Cyberpunk 2077 Day 1 patch download or syncing with the GOG cloud.
At 4:30 p.m. PST, Steam’s data stats page shows that the service is experiencing a peak bandwidth consumption of 17.7 terabytes per second. Basically, that’s a lot of people “getting started” in the game. Some players even experience a sudden pause near the end of the 60GB download.
DownDetector’s Steam page also reported around 23,000 Steam issue reports as of 4:50 p.m. PST.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a video game launch without many fans taking to social media to bemoan their momentary inconvenience. At least there are gems.
Notably, it appears that Steam’s storefront page is also experiencing intermittent crashes. We tested it on our own PC and noticed that the storefront page struggled to load, if it had to load for a while.
Chances are as you read this CD Projekt, Steam, and GOG may have fixed their technical issues, and downloading Cyberpunk 2077 may not be a problem. Of course, Cyberpunk joins the long list of massive AAA releases that are having launch issues thanks to the sudden influx of enthusiastic gamers.IGN gave Cyberpunk 2077 a 9 out of 10 rating, calling it a “stunning, dazzlingly dense cityscape” with “an incredible amount of choice” marred by frequent bugs.
