Juventus will be forced to pay millions to Cristiano Ronaldo after losing a legal battle with their former player.

Ronaldo has launched legal action against the Serie A giants, claiming they owe him more than £16 million in unpaid wages.

This concerns agreements reached with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and other players to defer salary payments during the COVID pandemic.

The players agreed to defer their salaries for four months due to the club’s financial difficulties, but this was never subsequently granted.

Juventus were also accused of not reporting this in any official financial documents.

Ronaldo won his case against Juventus, as reported by Sport Mediaset in Italy, with an arbitration board awarding him half of the sum he demanded.

That’s around £8.5 million, plus interest, taking the sum probably into eight figures.

Ronaldo left Juve in 2021 to return to Manchester United, after spending three seasons with the club.

He scored 101 goals in 134 games and won two Serie A titles.

The 39-year-old then spent 18 months at Old Trafford before heading to Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr.
