Cowboys’ Dak Prescott will not be charged by Dallas police for alleged 2017 sexual assault

DALLAS — Dallas police have reviewed allegations of sexual assault against Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and will not move forward with charges citing insufficient evidence that an offense was committed, according to ESPN.

“I want to thank the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County Prosecutors’ Office for their thorough investigation into the allegations against Dak Prescott,” Levi McCarthern, Prescott’s attorney, said in a statement Friday, via ESPN . “As we knew they would, they found nothing in their thorough exploration of the facts that would warrant a criminal prosecution. We are confident that at the conclusion of law enforcement’s investigation into the extortion case, they will find the accuser and her lawyers just as guilty as Dak is innocent.

“As I have said from the beginning, Dak is a great football player and an even better human being. He would never assault any woman. These false accusations were made seven years after the alleged events for one and only one reason: to line the pockets of the accuser and her lawyers. Their behavior is an affront to all true survivors of sexual assault.

Earlier this offseason, Prescott filed a lawsuit in Collin County — home to the Cowboys’ team headquarters in Frisco, Texas — accusing a woman of a $100 million extortion attempt using the threat of a false allegation of sexual assault, according to the Dallas Morning News. The lawsuit says the alleged incident took place in 2017.

“Mr. Prescott – the new father of a baby girl – has great empathy for survivors of sexual assault,” McCarthern said in a statement to the Dallas Morning News at the time. “He firmly believes that all perpetrators of such crimes should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. To be clear, Mr. Prescott has never engaged in non-consensual sexual behavior with anyone. Lies hurt .Especially malicious lies. We will not allow the defendant and his legal team to profit from this attempt to extort millions from Mr. Prescott.

Prescott’s lawsuit, which he filed in March, sought monetary relief of more than $1 million after receiving a letter in January from his accuser’s lawyer saying she “waives criminal charges and to disclose this information to the public, in exchange for compensation. for the mental anguish she suffered. [The woman’s] the damages are estimated at the sum of $100,000,000.00.”

His alleged accuser dropped the lawsuit she filed in Dallas County and moved the case to Collin County “for convenience” because Collin County is where Prescott filed his own complaint, attorney Yoel Zehaie said, according to WFAA.

Zahaie also said reports that his client had dropped the suit altogether were “misleading.” The accuser’s motion for a “dismissal without prejudice” allows her to refile the case in Dallas County at a later date if she chooses. the prosecution of Prescott’s alleged accuser and his prosecution for extortion face off in Collin County Civil Court.

I know the truth, I’m confident in what we filed, very confident in what we filed,” Prescott said in Dallas in April. “I know some things have changed in their direction and where they filed, but that’s not the case. I have no idea what we are doing and how we are going to conduct our trial. »

Prescott, who enters the final season of a four-year, $160 million contract in 2024, made it clear he did not believe the lawsuits would have any effect on his negotiations over a contract extension with the Cowboys.

“That has nothing to do with it,” Prescott said.
