Courtney Love Says Taylor Swift Is ‘Not Important,’ Slams Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ – Hollywood Reporter

Courtney Love took shots at several other female musicians this weekend, criticizing Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey and Madonna.

“Taylor is not important,” the singer said in an interview with The standard. “She may be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of the moment, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”

Despite invoking Madonna to talk about Swift’s success, Love didn’t spare Madonna either: “I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me,” Love said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Love also noted that she doesn’t like Beyoncé’s new country hit, Cowboy Carteralthough he appreciates the album’s symbolism which concerns “black women entering spaces where previously only white women were allowed”.

“As a concept, I love it,” Love said. “I just don’t like his music.”

Love went on to say that she didn’t like Lana Del Rey. “I think she really should take seven years off,” she said, noting that she didn’t like Lana’s music “since she covered a John Denver song.”

“Until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads,’ I thought she was great,” Love continued. “When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her because she influenced me too much.”

Love has attributed many of her criticisms to what she sees as female musicians converging in their style.

“It’s great that there are so many successful women in the music industry, but a lot of them become a cliché,” she said. “Now all the successful women are cloned, so there’s just too much music. They are all the same. If you listen to something on Spotify, you’re bombarded with lots of things exactly the same.
