Bengaluru: An Android application on the theme of coronaviruses is infecting mobile devices, according to the cybersecurity solutions company SonicWall.
The company said its research team had observed malware writers abusing the fear of the coronavirus to spread their malicious creations.
“An Android application called Coronavirus has been located and asks the victim to re-enter the PIN code on the device and steals information, while repeatedly asking for the capabilities of the accessibility service”, a- he said in a statement.
With additional capabilities based on the traces found in the code, the attacker can remotely control the device by making this malware a RAT (remote access Trojan), the statement said.
“This malware is constantly trying to invade / integrate into the device by multiple means,” he said.
Debasish Mukherjee, Vice President, APAC Regional Sales, SonicWall, said the attackers were surfing on the fear of the general public and developing codes to steal sensitive information and control mobile devices remotely.
