Dillon Danis was forced to quickly go back and delete a Tweet he sent following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s win at UFC 254.
Welterweight Bellator, who trains with Conor McGregor, let his fingers speak after seeing the Russian go 29-0 on Fight Island against Justin Gaethje.
Khabib forced the American to type in the second round via a triangular starter, before bursting into tears to announce his retirement.
However, Danis tried to hijack the moment and wrote: “Khabib is retiring because he is afraid of Conor McGregor”. Still, he quickly deleted this Tweet after realizing the mistake of his manners.
The Russian had arguably never lost a round in his professional MMA career, but decided to leave while still at the top in order to honor his late father and respect his mother’s wishes.
He said after the fight: “” Thanks to those guys with me, with my dad over 10 years. Coach Jav I love him so much. My whole team. Thank you.
“Today, I want to say it’s my last fight. I don’t come here without my father. When the UFC tells me about Justin, I spoke with my mom for three days.
“She didn’t want me to fight without a father and I said this was my last fight – and I gave her my word.
“Thanks a lot Justin. I know you are awesome, I know how you take care of your people. Be close to your parents because you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. Thank you coach, thank you guys. Today is my last fight in the UFC.
“It was my father’s dream. Justin and Conor (McGregor) will fight in January, I choked the two out, I’m not interested.
McGregor paid tribute to his Russian opponent on Twitter and put their rivalry aside to congratulate him on a successful career.
