Conor McGregor has revealed exactly when he will start getting tested again ahead of his highly anticipated return to the UFC.
The former two-weight UFC champion has been sidelined since suffering a fractured tibia and fibula at UFC 264 in July 2021, but recently opened up about his return to the action in 2023.
However, it was thought that McGregor’s next fight might be delayed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency. [USADA] which typically tests UFC fighters for six months before they are allowed to compete.
UFC President Dana White recently suggested his biggest star will have to go through this process, but it appears ‘Notorious’ has been granted an exemption.
On Thursday morning, McGregor tweeted, “I’m ready for testing in February. I will complete my two tests by USADA and we book a fight.
In 2022, the 34-year-old was not tested for doping by USADA at all and is believed to have left the program as he focuses on his injury recovery.
Unlike his recovery year, McGregor – who has never failed a drug test – was one of the most tested athletes in 2021 with 11 samples taken during the year.
Despite his injury, “Mystic Mac” managed to put on some serious muscle during his time away from the sport prior to his move to the welterweight division.
Not everyone is a fan of his new physique, with lightweight contender Justin Gaethje recently claiming – without any evidence – that McGregor uses performance-enhancing drugs.
The biggest star in MMA history shrugged off unwarranted cheating allegations from his rivals and recently combined his workouts with filming a movie.
However, he has now finished filming a remake of the 1980s classic Road House with Hollywood superstar Jake Gyllenhaal and can now fully concentrate on the fights.
It’s currently unknown who he will face but he certainly won’t be short of options after being called up by Jorge Masvidal, Michael Chandler Charles Oliveira and many others during his sidelined spell.
