Conor McGregor has given fans an injury update and confirmed his return weight after naming Nate Diaz his toughest test.
“Notorious” has been out of action since fracturing his tibia and fibula at UFC 264 in July 2021 and is set to make his highly anticipated return in 2023.
Lately, talk of McGregor competing in MMA died down as he filmed his film debut alongside Hollywood superstar Jake Gyllenhaal in the Dominican Republic.
However, on Tuesday night McGregor answered a few questions about his comeback which he said will be “the greatest comeback in sports history”.
A member of the UFC superstar’s management team recently revealed that the former two-weight champion’s leg hasn’t fully healed yet, but weeks later the man himself insists that she’s stronger than ever.
“Fast memory. Top surgeons and team. The leg is now a lethal weapon,” McGregor replied on Twitter when asked how his recovery process was going.
During his absence from the Octagon, the 34-year-old has seriously puffed up and has already claimed he will make a run for the welterweight title upon his return.
McGregor then reaffirmed his interest in competing at 170lbs in the future when asked if his next fight will be at welterweight, he replied, “Absolutely,” adding, “I’m excited to be hosting clinics. They saw half a page of my file.
The Q&A on Twitter wasn’t just about his comeback and “Mystic Mac” even gave his thoughts on the upcoming fights and named Nate Diaz as the toughest opponent he’s ever faced.
That’s no surprise considering Diaz soaked up all of McGregor’s patent power shots before submitting him in two rounds in their first fight at UFC 196 in March 2016.
The MMA stars faced off later in the year and McGregor was forced to go five rounds and survive some tough times to avenge his first UFC loss with a majority decision win at UFC 202.
Fans have been calling for a third fight between McGregor and Diaz for years, but it’s currently off the table as the American fan favorite recently left the UFC.
Diaz picked up a fourth-round submission victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 before announcing his intention to leave the MMA promotion he was with for 15 years to pursue lucrative opportunities in boxing.
The 37-year-old is lined up as a potential opponent for YouTube boxer turned Jake Paul, but has also been called out by four-weight world champion Adrien Broner.
