SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Congressman Neal is due to visit the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to announce the US Small Business Administration’s COVID relief funding on Monday.
Accompanied by Congressman Richard Neal will be Basketball Hall of Fame President and CEO John Doleva at 11:00 a.m. 22News will broadcast the event live.
Since October, the administration has distributed $ 687 million to more than 15,000 local employers as part of its COVID-19 business relief effort. Most of the funds came from the federal government.
The program allocated $ 91 million to personal service establishments such as hair and nail salons, $ 62 million to independent retailers, $ 35 million to healthcare companies and $ 24 million to education companies, $ 21 million to gyms and fitness centers, $ 20 million to event support. businesses, nearly $ 18 million in professional services such as accounting firms, $ 14.8 million in construction, $ 13.9 million in manufacturing and $ 10.8 million in transportation.
Several other industries, including accommodation, media and indoor recreation, have each allocated less than $ 10 million in grants under the program, the administration said.
Now the focus on Beacon Hill will shift to control of federal funding, once a deal is struck by lawmakers they say they are ready to send money to communities that need it most.
