Chris Eubank Jr is confident that Anthony Joshua will have his revenge on Oleksandr Usyk, after witnessing the defeated former world champion’s “hunger” to regain his titles firsthand.
Eubank Jr is preparing for a severe national test next month when he takes on Liam Williams in Wales, and while COVID-19 proves to be embarrassing for this fight scheduled for February 6, that hasn’t stopped preparations Eubank Jr.
In fact, the second-generation fighter spent time training in Dubai with fellow Briton Joshua.
AJ is expected to resume operations around April as he tries to reclaim the IBF, IBO, WBO and WBA heavyweight world titles he lost to Usyk last September.
talkSPORT met Eubank Jr after being confirmed as an 888 Poker Ambassador and he gave us an overview of Joshua’s background.
“Dubai was great, it’s a great training there,” began Eubank Jr.
“It was great to be with AJ, we spent a lot of time together training together, going out – he’s great. And yes, seeing him watching me train and giving himself advice, that was a good thing.
“Listen, the man is still hungry. Everything he’s done, all the money he’s made, he’s still hungry.
“He always wants to be better, he always wants to improve and he wants this victory, he wants to avenge this loss, 100%. And I don’t see why he can’t do it.
“He will have to change his game plan, he knows that. But as he showed in Ruiz’s rematch, he’s more than capable of turning things around and growing as a fighter so I’m confident [he will win]”Said Eubank Jr.
Joshua is expected to announce who will be his new coach in the coming weeks, but his amateur coach Rob McCracken is expected to be held back to some extent.
Eubank Jr plans to win a world middleweight title this year if he can beat Williams, but promoter Kalle Sauerland started dreaming of one day making Conor Benn vs Chirs Eubank Jr – two sons of the legendary feud Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank.
However, Next Gen is not thinking about this battle yet.
“If this fight were to take place, it wouldn’t be for a few good years,” Eubank Jr. said after a chuckle.
“He’s always up, he’s always up in the game. It is still quite green. I guess you could call me a veteran at this point in my career and we’re in two different weight classes.
“He’s still growing up, he could probably still move up a weight class or two. The fight should be a grabbing one.
“But we’re at completely different stages of our career. I’m looking for world middleweight titles and it’s far from it all.
“This fight, if it were to happen, it’s far away.”
