Anthony Fontana capped the Union’s big night by rolling the ball into an empty net on a two-on-zero breakaway with Przybylko.

The Philadelphia-Atlanta winner qualifies for a semi-final against the Portland Timbers or Club America, who begin their quarter-final series Wednesday in Oregon.

Cruz Azul 3, Toronto FC 1

Brayan Angulo gave Cruz Azul the lead twice in the first half, with the Mexican side claiming the win in the first leg of a quarter-final series in Tampa.

The return leg is scheduled for May 4 in Mexico City.

An 18-yard curling effort from Angulo in the third minute opened the scoring but Jonathan Osorio of Toronto tied the score in the 20th minute after a scramble into the 6-yard box.

Angulo put Cruz Azul on top for good in the 34th minute with a tap-in from a corner kick. Pablo Aguilar’s header from a free kick in the 58th minute sealed the result of the first leg.

The winner of Cruz Azul-Toronto will meet the Mexican Monterrey or the Columbus Crew, who will open their quarter-final series on Wednesday in Ohio.
