Laviska Shenault, one of the top rated receivers at the 2020 NFL Draft, going to have surgery that should keep him out for 4-6 weeks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The former Colorado enlarger was said to have suffered a central muscle injury and inflammation of the pubic bone.
Despite his lingering injury, Shenault, tabulated by CBS Sports as the fifth best hope to receive the draft, ran a draft of 4.58 on 40 yards in the NFL combined. Shenault, who did not participate in field work during the combine, alluded to his injury during his media session in Indianapolis.
“I couldn’t train for everything because of my injury,” said Shenault, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN. “I had to do a lot of rest and re-education. But I could only train for the 40.”
Shenault, who suffered various injuries during his time with Colorado, is arguably the most versatile catcher in this year’s draft. In his three seasons in Colorado, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound width caught 10 touchdowns, ran for seven touchdowns and scored another touchdown on special teams. In his last two seasons, Shenault has captured 142 passes for 1,775 yards and 10 touchdowns despite four games missed due to injury. With an average of 6.7 yards per carry, Shenault has an average of 13 yards per catch, including an average of 13.6 yards last season.
“Definitely difficult,” said Shenault recently of his Colorado injuries. “But I love sport too much to shut it down. And I just wanted to be a team player. Like I said, I love sport too much, so I just had to keep playing and keep fighting and to produce as much as I could. “
