On Saturday, Cody revealed the Australian swimming moments that inspired him to trade the stage for the pool.
One of those inspirations was Grant Hackett’s victory in the 1,500m at the 2004 Athens Olympics, which the athlete won with a partially collapsed lung.
“He’s a longtime family friend and just crushed him. This swim just showed how tough he is, ”Cody told the Daily Telegraph.

Cody also cited Michael Phelps breaking the 50 second 100m butterfly record in Rome in 2009 as influencing him.
“This swim was on redemption. There was quite a bit of controversy when Phelps won Olympic gold the year before by a hundredth of a second … and a lot of people thought it wasn’t the right result.
“It was a super cool race, and I still watch it,” he added.
Mom’s son! One of Cody’s tattoos, located on his biceps, was a love heart with the word “mom” written on it.
Healthy: The former pop star showed off her petite stature and broad, muscular shoulders
In April, Cody placed ninth in his run at the Australian National Championships, clocking 24.79 seconds.
Speaking to News Corp at the time, he said he was “dusting himself off” after the loss.
He claimed his two-week quarantine could have contributed to a loss of his peak performance in the pool.

Thirst? Cody grabbed his oversized water bottle and started drinking the water
“I probably would have liked to go a little faster, but it was the first race in a long time and I just came out of my forties,” he said.
Cody continued, “Two weeks out of the water sets you back quite a long time, but I must have been through my 40s at one point.”
“I just wanted to get up and at least do the 50m to dust myself off.”
