‘I gained 40 pounds!’: Christina Applegate, 51, talks about her changing body after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, adding that she doesn’t ‘feel’ herself
Christina Applegate has opened up about her health issues in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times.
The 51-year-old longtime actress shared that she gained 40 pounds after her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
It changed the way she saw herself.
“I gained 40 pounds from inactivity and medication, and I didn’t look like myself, and I didn’t feel like myself,” the Married… with Kids actress said.
Applegate had to film his Netflix dark comedy Dead To Me even though his body was changing. She was so upset by her appearance that she refused to watch the show, she shared.

Referring to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, she said: “I don’t like to see myself in trouble.”
The mother-of-one said: “At some point I was able to distance myself from my own ego and realize what beautiful television this was.
“All the scenes that I wasn’t in were so much fun to see and experience for the very first time,” the Los Angeles native continued.
Applegate was diagnosed with MS while filming the show’s third installment, which also stars Linda Cardellini as Judy Hale.
Leading the series as widowed mother Jen Harding, Christina’s performance earned her a SAG nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
Elsewhere in the interview, the entertainer revealed that the upcoming 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards may mark her final appearance as an active actress.
“This is probably my last award show as an actor, so that’s a big deal,” the Married with Child star said.
Although not onscreen, Christina told the outlet that she is pursuing voiceover work.

“Doing a ton of voiceovers to earn money to make sure my daughter is fed and we’re home,” she joked.
She was referring to the child she shares with her husband Martyn LeNoble, twelve-year-old Sadie Grace LeNoble.
Dead To Me premiered in 2019 and aired its last episode in November 2022.

The comedy series follows Jen (Christina) who, after losing her husband in a hit-and-run, meets his widow Judy Hale (Linda) during a grief counseling session.
The duo form an unlikely friendship that leads Jen to make Judy a part of her life and that of her children.
But drama unfolds when it is revealed that Judy is harboring a dark secret that will change life as they know it.
In her chat with the LA Times, Christina said she was “an everyday wreck” as she filmed the final season of Dead To Me while “struggling” with her MS symptoms.
“But most of that wreckage would have been in my trailer on my own,” she recalls.
Production took a five-month hiatus shortly so she could undergo the treatment she needed.
