The football world is rallying around Christian Eriksen, who fortunately stabilized following a heartbreaking incident during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash on Saturday.
The midfielder collapsed to the ground during the game at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen with no one else around him.
The gravity of the situation quickly became apparent as both groups of players and referee Anthony Taylor urged medical staff to enter the pitch to revive him.
The Inter Milan player received CPR from medical staff and defibrillators were used. A few minutes later, he was taken to hospital on a stretcher.
The first signs are fortunately encouraging, the Danish Football Association having announced the stabilization of Eriksen.
His agent, Martin Schoots, told Dutch media he spoke to the player’s father and revealed that Eriksen was breathing and was able to speak.
And the decision was made to play the rest of the match – supposedly at Eriksen’s request – suggesting he’s confident he will recover from this health alert.
Incidents like these put things in perspective and also bring out the best of people whose medical staff do a great job of keeping them alive.
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook said fans in Denmark and Finland chanted in unison as they wanted the 29-year-old to recover.
Meanwhile, many in the world of football outside the stadium sent their best wishes to Eriksen.
The most poignant came from Fabrice Muamba, who suffered a heart attack during an FA Cup match between Bolton and Tottenham at White Hart Lane in March 2012.
Below is a small selection of the huge amount of tributes to Eriksen.
