Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (right) said on Sunday that ‘the circus continues’ in response to a question about former President Trump saying he would be arrested on Tuesday in connection with an alleged silent payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels – and also urged her followers to protest.
“The circus continues. I mean, listen, he only thrives and thrives in chaos and turmoil. And so he wants to create chaos and turmoil on his terms. He doesn’t want anybody else’s terms… he wants it on his terms,” Christie said on ABC’s “This Week.”
“But look at the end, being indicted never helps anyone,” he said, amid some lawmakers speculating that Trump’s legal troubles are reigniting his base.
Trump, who is running for president in 2024, said on Saturday he believed he would be arrested on Tuesday as a New York grand jury investigates the alleged secret money scheme that came about midway through his run 2016 presidential election.
In a Truth Social article on Saturday, Trump indicated he would be arrested on Tuesday, then urged his supporters to “protest, take back our nation!”
Christie said Sunday he expects people to take this Trump investigation “less seriously” than others because they “know the most” about it.
“I don’t think there are many Americans who don’t believe Donald Trump had an affair with Stormy Daniels, and don’t believe he paid her money at the end of the campaign. to keep her quiet. So I don’t think the American people view this as a huge crime,” Christie said.
“But the vision of a former president of the United States being processed, fingerprinted, mugshot – you know, what else do we expect Trump to say… other than to say it helps his campaign? But being charged, I don’t think that ever helps anyone.
