China’s Henan province sees drop in smartphone exports due to supply chain changes – South China Morning Post

According to data released by Zhengzhou local customs authorities, Henan’s smartphone exports totaled 6.65 million units in the first quarter, down 60.1 percent from the same period last year. Customs data does not provide a breakdown of handset exports by brand.

Foxconn, formerly known as Hon Hai Precision Industrystepped up its diversification efforts last year after struggling to meet its production targets at the end of 2022 after being hit by an exodus of workerswho fled for fear of transmission of the coronavirus, followed by violent demonstrations on employee benefits.

The world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer will spend this amount on top of 1.6 billion dollars that he had put aside for the 300-acre (121-hectare) site near Bangalore airport, according to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter.

Indian iPhone exports have seen significant growth and are expected to almost double to $12.1 billion in Apple’s current fiscal year, up from $6.27 billion a year earlier, according to data from consultancy firm Trade Vision.

Tata is also considering buying the Taiwanese electronics subcontractor. PegatroniPhone assembly operations in India as early as May, according to a Bloomberg report, citing sources.

Apple nevertheless considers mainland China its main manufacturing base. Apple added eight Chinese suppliers and cut four subcontractors in the country during its latest fiscal year ended September, the first time since 2021 that the US tech giant has introduced more manufacturing partners to the continent than it did not delete any.

“There is no supply chain in the world that is more critical for us than China,” Cook told state media outlet China Daily in March.
