Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his fiancee Brittany Matthews announced the birth of their first child on their Instagram pages.
Sterling Skye Mahomes was born on Saturday and weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces. The couple each posted a photo of their daughter holding Matthews finger as she wore a “Sterling” necklace.
Mahomes had told reporters in the week leading up to Super Bowl 55 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that the deadline was “coming pretty quickly.”
The couple got engaged on September 1, 2020, the same day the Chiefs received their Super Bowl 54 rings. Mahomes proposed to Matthews in a sequel at Arrowhead Stadium.
Four weeks later, they announced that Matthews was pregnant, as she held up a picture of an ultrasound. Almost a month later, they announced in a gender reveal that they were having a daughter.
Mahomes couldn’t win his second straight Super Bowl, but now he can say he’s a #GirlDad.
