Chelsea paraded the Champions League trophy around Stamford Bridge ahead of their friendly against Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Under normal circumstances, the Blues would have shown the coveted prize to thousands of fans on an open top bus on Kings Road in London immediately following their triumph over Man City in June.
COVID-19 restrictions meant it wasn’t possible, but by hosting a packed house at Stamford Bridge for the first time in 17 months, the preseason clash with Spurs presented a perfect opportunity.
Not only did Cesar Azpilicueta lift the famous trophy in front of more than 40,000 adoring fans, but the parade was also held with Chelsea’s big rivals in the building.
Tottenham, of course, won’t need to recall their neighbors’ success during their 13-year trophy drought.
Blues loyalists also quickly reminded Spurs of Harry Kane’s absence ahead of kick-off.
The Tottenham striker did not show up to training as scheduled in an attempt to force a move to Man City.
While the 28-year-old is still on vacation in Florida, Chelsea fans could be heard chanting in unison: “Where the hell is Harry Kane?”
