Chelsea fans have made their feelings clear about a potential sale of Conor Gallagher this summer with a huge banner against Tottenham.

Gallagher could be sold by Chelsea this summer with one year remaining on his contract and no sign of negotiations.

Tottenham are best placed to sign the England international, who has come through the ranks of the Blues’ academy and has a price tag of £50million.

But at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, home fans made sure the board knew exactly what they thought about a potential sale – with Spurs in town.

A huge banner was held up by Gallagher supporters, with the caption: “Chelsea since birth”.

The Blues number 23 played a key role in Chelsea’s opener, scored by Trevoh Chalobah, taking a free-kick from the right before the defender brilliantly headed a header beyond Guglielmo Vicario.

Gallagher, born in Epsom, near the club’s Cobham training ground, has become a firm favorite with Stamford Bridge supporters for his courageous performances in midfield and his consistent work rate.

Mauricio Pochettino made him stand-in captain with Reece James and Ben Chilwell injured and he was instrumental in their final performance.

Coming back from 2-0 down against Aston Villa, Chelsea earned a 2-2 draw with a goal from Gallagher, as well as an assist.

In total, the 24-year-old has six goals and eight assists in all competitions in 45 appearances.

Chelsea sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are present at Stamford Bridge and would no doubt have seen the banner.

However, the club’s financial problems could force them to the negotiating table anyway after spending more than £1 billion on players since Clearlake Capital took over.

It means some players may have to leave to balance the books, with academy stars linked with departures as “pure profit” sales.

This simply means that since they didn’t cost a transfer fee, no matter what price they are sold for, the entire fee goes to the bank.

This is one of the reasons why Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen were allowed to leave, despite both being on loan at Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Hall will sign for Newcastle this summer for a fee of £35million while Dortmund have already indicated they are very happy with Maatsen, who can sign for the same fee.
