Chelsea ‘concerned’ over Wesley Fofana’s injury, admits Graham Potter, as summer signing nets Blues first goal but leaves pitch in tears in Champions League win over AC Milan

Wesley Fofana enjoyed back-to-back delight and huge disappointment in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Champions League.

The French defender, who joined the Blues from Leicester in a £70m deal this summer, scored his first goal for his new club to break the deadlock at Stamford Bridge.

Thiago Silva had a header from a corner saved by Ciprian Tatarusanu a scramble into the box followed by Fofana fending off the loose ball from close range in the 24th minute.

But just 14 minutes later, Fofana’s joy turned to despair as he limped off with a worrying knee injury.

It happened in rather innocuous circumstances as Fofana landed awkwardly following a fair challenge from Milan midfielder Rafael Leao.

Fofana left the pitch in tears as he was duly replaced by Trevoh Chalobah.

Manager Graham Potter admitted Fofana’s injury was the only downside to the Blues’ hugely important win, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James also on the scoresheet.

And when asked about it after the game, the Chelsea boss admitted his concern.

Potter said, “We don’t know [the full extent] Again. It’s the only disappointing thing of the evening. We have to scan tomorrow and keep our fingers crossed.

“I wouldn’t want to speculate on that now, but we’re worried and we just have to wait until tomorrow, get it scanned and hope for the best.

“These things happen, he is a young man, a strong man, we will support him. But as I said at the moment, not much to report, but we hope for the best.
