Chelsea are backed as serious contenders for Champions League glory this season after beating Atletico Madrid.
The Blues gained the upper hand in the first leg of their last clash of the last 16, with Oliver Giroud scoring a spectacular bike kick to seal a 1-0 victory for the Blues.
Chelsea have had a tough national campaign, with Frank Lampard sacked as manager in January and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
But they are now eight games unbeaten under Tuchel and are looking for a much more formidable outfit.
Former Chelsea ace and talkSPORT host Jason Cundy now sees no reason why the club cannot repeat their 2012 Champions League success.
Much like that tenure, in 2011/2012 they changed managers and endured a tough Premier League campaign – ultimately finishing sixth – but then sealed Euro glory.
“We can win it,” Cundy – still an avid Blues fan – told Sports Bar.
“The year we won it wasn’t the best Chelsea team I’ve seen.
“We had a better Chelsea team when we lost in 08, we came out the following season in 09 – they were a better Chelsea team.
Giroud’s sixth Champions League goal this season was his best yet to win it for Chelsea.
On the super strike, Cundy added, “What a brilliant finish on his part. He’s a brilliant striker as we’ve shown over the years.
“He’s not prolific as a striker, but he scored big goals for Chelsea and it’s right up there. Brilliantly taken and he faces one of the best goalkeepers in the world there.
“There is very little goal he can aim for. It was a brilliant strike and a brilliant performance. I thought we deserved it and that we played really well.
Atletico Madrid failed to have a single shot on target in the entire game and it was a disappointing performance from the current La Liga leaders.
‘Spanish Burnley’ was all the rage on Twitter in response to their performance and Cundy wasn’t impressed with what he saw.
He said: “We discussed last night what to expect from them. They are leading La Liga, what is La Liga at the moment?
“I saw your gang (Man United) tear up Real Sociedad, I saw PSG do something similar at Barca and we beat Sevilla 4-0 earlier this season.
“I don’t want to hurt our victory, because it’s a brilliant victory, but if that’s the best Spain can offer, my god, they backed off in a serious way.
