It remains to be seen whether Justin Herbert will take a chance on Sunday — broken rib cartilage and all — as the Los Angeles Chargers’ star quarterback is questionable for Sunday’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“It’s a decision we still have a few days to make”, Herbert said friday. “That decision will be made on Sunday.”
Head coach Brandon Staley reiterated that he views Herbert as day-to-day, saying the team will make a decision based on how much progress he makes over the rest of the week before Sunday. Herbert did not practice Friday after limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday.
Herbert was injured in the Chargers’ Week 2 loss to the Chiefs when he received a hard blow to the ribs late in the fourth quarter. He only missed one game before returning to play, but was in obvious pain throughout the rest of the contest.
“It’s up to us, our team, to make the best decision,” Herbert said.
Staley confirmed that Chase Daniel would start if Herbert did not play against the Jags.
Herbert isn’t the only concern in the Bolts’ injury report.
Wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring), who missed Week 2, is questionable for Week 3, while center Corey Linsley (knee) and cornerback JC Jackson are doubts. Allen was restricted on Wednesday and Thursday, before sitting out Friday practice, and Staley said it would be a game-time decision. Linsley and Jackson have not practiced all week .
