Jerome Boateng is looking to sign for Man Utd this summer, three years after rejecting the opportunity to join the squad under Jose Mourinho.
The two-time Champions League-winning center-back is available on a free transfer following his exit from Bayern Munich.
Several European clubs are keen to acquire his services, but he is considering Champions League football with his ‘dream’ destination Man Utd, reports Calciomercato.it (via the Star of the day).
The German defender was wanted by former United boss Mourinho in the summer of 2018, but he phoned the current Roma boss to tell him he would not be joining the Red Devils, choosing instead to extend his stay with Bayern.
Ironically enough, Boateng is unlikely to get United knocking on their doors for the second time, as they have already agreed to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. The Frenchman is also decorated and, more importantly, a younger option than him.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also has Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe at his disposal.
Such is the abundance of center-backs at Old Trafford that the Norwegian expects Tuanzebe to leave on loan this summer.
Mourinho is also considering signing a new defender, but Boateng’s name is not yet linked with Roma at the moment. Instead, the Portuguese is reportedly aiming for a reunion with Bailly.
