Regulars will know that we recently recommended Jason Denayer, and we were pleased to see that every answer bar disagreed and supported that name. Not a soul worried about his Celtic fate, citing only his obvious qualities and the fact that he would be a lucrative Bosman for Ibrox.
There is another one though, another world-class defender who once went for £35m and is currently a free agent, without a single club signing him yet, and still just 31 , is a former 3x league champion in three different countries and a French international too.
Eliaquim Mangala is currently without a club, but his career is sparkling – Liège, Porto, City, Valencia, Everton and St Etienne are the list of fine clubs Mangala has honored, clubs in top leagues and the small issue of having done 34 champions League appearances.
World class?
Well, hard to say, but his resume is about as good as any free agent, that’s for sure, and Rangers absolutely need quality at the back given that we don’t. have absolutely none.
He’s barely had an injury for the best part of two years so he’s not a player destined for the treatment table – the only issue here is the salary.
Mangala’s salary probably wouldn’t be cheap considering what he can offer, but he’s the transfer right for this Rangers board which helps, and his experience is not only invaluable to the Ibrox team, but he’s young enough to still have a lot to give. .
Could it be worth it?
