A national champion among regional ball clubs?
It became a possibility, with top teams from the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, and the National Basketball League (NBL) pledging to send their top clubs to a league-like tournament. champions for a national crown.
The three leagues are all heavily funded by Chooks-to-Go, whose owner Ronald Mascariñas said at a press conference on Saturday that he was pursuing the idea of crowning a national champion among the top regional teams.
“Once the quarantine restrictions are relaxed, we will kick off the Champions League where the top teams from each of the three leagues compete to be the national champion,” Mascariñas said.
And so early, the idea got everyone excited.
“I was happy when I heard about it … [the Champions League], we’ll see how competitive our teams are in our respective leagues, ”said NBL chief Rhose Montreal, who also heads the National Women’s Basketball League.
“We are excited about the Champions League and this is something new that Filipino basketball fans will look forward to,” said MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.
