There was only one spot – the 4-0 defeat to Chelsea – in an otherwise perfect UEFA Champions League group stage for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who arguably performed better in Europe than ‘in Serie A in the first half of the season.

The perspective of a UEFA.com journalist
Allegri joined Juventus in May, but he’s still on the hunt for the magic dust that led the team to two finals in their first spell. Highly fickle in Serie A, Juve were impressive with four wins in as many games to start their European campaign but the 4-0 loss to Chelsea on Matchday 5 brought the Bianconeri back to earth.
What we have learned
Replacing the number of goals that a certain Cristiano Ronaldo brought to Juventus required a significant team effort. Forwards partially got the job done, but midfielders struggled to play their part in the group stage.
Fantastic star performers
Alex Sandro – 34 points
Leonardo Bonucci – 34 points
Paulo Dybala – 27 points
Clubs can register a maximum of three new eligible players by Wednesday 2 February at midnight CET at the latest. Since 2018/19, it does not matter whether these players have already played in the competition for another club, even for another club still in competition. Once all team changes have been approved by UEFA in each competition, the full list of entries and exits will be published on UEFA.com.
• Federico Chiesa scored in a fourth straight Champions League game when he struck the winner against Chelsea, becoming the first Juve player to achieve such a feat since Alessandro Del Piero 14 years earlier.
• The 4-0 loss to Chelsea was the heaviest for Juventus in the competition since the 7-0 loss to Wiener Sport-Club in the preliminary round of the 1958/59 season.
• Defender Daniele Rugani has made just three appearances, for a total of 99 minutes, in the group stage, but he leads the charts for passing accuracy throughout the competition with 98.3%.
