CBS Sports has updated its Top 25 and 1 college basketball rankings, and there’s a lot of movement to watch.
A few upsets and some big wins changed things for CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish, as he wrote about some specific teams before entering his rankings, including Baylor’s victory over Gonzaga on Friday night.
“So now the Bears are No. 13 in the daily CBS Sports Top 25 and 1 updated Saturday morning college basketball rankings. Gonzaga is now only 14th. And because I don’t want Baylor ahead of the Marquette team that just smoked the Bears, or Marquette ahead of the Mississippi State team that’s undefeated with a win over the Golden Eagles, I’m made Mississippi State and Marquette No. 11 and No. 12, respectfully, in the Top 25 and 1,” Parrish explained. “All of that movement — combined with Maryland’s jump to No. 10 after Friday night’s 71-66 win over Illinois that pushed the Terrapins to 8-0 with three wins over KenPom’s top 45 teams — caused Kentucky, Arizona, Tennessee, Kansas, Duke and Iowa State to all be pushed back four spots each, through no fault of their own.
Here’s Parrish’s full opinion, published Saturday afternoon in the CBS Sports Top 25 and 1 rankings.
CBS Sports has updated the Top 25 and 1:
1) Texas Longhorns
2) Houston Cougars
3) Purdue Boilermakers
4) Virginia Cavaliers
5) Connecticut Huskies
6) Indian Hoosiers
seven) Creighton Blue Jays
8) Arkansas Razorbacks
9) Alabama Crimson Tide
ten) Maryland Terrapins
11) Mississippi State Bulldogs
12) Marquette Golden Eagles
13) Baylor Bear
14) Gonzaga Bulldogs
15) Kentucky Wildcats
16) Illinois Fighting Illinois
17) Arizona Wildcats
18) Tennessee Volunteers
19) Kansas Jayhawks
20) Duke Blue Devils
21) Iowa State Cyclones
22) UCLA Bruins
23) auburn tigers
24) San Diego State Aztecs
25) North Carolina Tar Heels
26) West Virginia Mountaineers
Alas, Baylor was one of the biggest movers, as the Bears, Maryland, Marquette and Mississippi State all moved up eight spots in the standings. The top eight remained unchanged, but it’s obvious the aforementioned teams are making their case.
Meanwhile, several teams have dropped four or more spots, as Gonzaga, Kentucky, Illinois, Arizona, Tennessee, Kansas, Duke and Iowa State all suffered severe slips. They’re pretty serious contenders, and they hope to race for the top again in the future.
Nonetheless, these are Gary Parrish’s rankings at the moment, and it’s hard to argue with his analysis at this time.
