Callum Shinkwin cruised to a four-stroke win at the Cazoo Wales Open backed by Gareth Bale, finishing 12-under for the tournament.

The Englishman finished ahead of Scotland’s Connor Syme to claim his second career DP World Tour title.

Shinkwin, 29, who started the day one shot ahead of Frenchman Julien Guerrier, had six birdies and five bogeys on Sunday for a final round 70.

“I’m over the moon,” said an emotional Shinkwin, world number 304.

“As long as nobody crossed the peloton – which wasn’t going to happen because the course was too difficult – I was confident.

Shinkwin moves up to 28th in the Race to Dubai standings after picking up a first win since the 2020 Cyprus Open.

Syme finished alone in second on eight under with a 68, while Guerrier was part of a five-man field tied for third on five under.

Oliver Farr and Stuart Manley – the only Welshmen to make the cut – finished three and eight respectively.
