Manchester United fans reacted with delight to Casemiro’s potential signing from Real Madrid, especially for the damage he caused against Liverpool.
The midfielder is on a shock £60m move to Old Trafford, leaving Spain with five Champions League winners’ medals.
United have been thrown back into chaos with early Premier League defeats to Brighton and Brentford but could potentially reveal Casemiro ahead of their next game against Liverpool.
After being hammered 4-0 at Brentford last time out, some feared things could get even worse against their fierce Merseyside rivals, but their latest signing may be able to offer some advice.
Not only are Liverpool also reeling from a winless start to the season, but the sight of Casemiro could send chills down their spines at Old Trafford, with the 30-year-old unbeaten in four games against the Reds.
The defensive midfielder has won three of four clashes against Liverpool, including two in the Champions League final, which will come as music to Manchester City’s ears.
As well as beating Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 2018 and 2022 finals, a moment stood out for the United faithful, who played in their only draw, in the 2020/21 quarter-finals.
Madrid had already beaten Liverpool 3-1 in the first leg in Spain, with a 0-0 draw at Anfield more than enough to secure progress to the last four, but one moment in particular will have United fans drooling.
Liverpool captain on the night, James Milner, issued a brutal challenge to his armband-wearing counterpart, Karim Benzema.
The veteran’s studs ended up straight into the Frenchman’s ankle with him very unlucky to avoid injury, however, Casemiro wasn’t finished.
Moments later, in the 24th minute with Benzema limping, Milner took possession of the ball just past Jurgen Klopp and the Brazilian came on to clear him, dropping him into the technical area.
A scrum was called as Klopp and the fourth official had to intervene between Andy Robertson and Casemiro, while Roberto Firmino was held back by his Brazilian teammate by compatriot Eder Militao.
The No.14 was barely agitated, raising his eyebrows at Milner as both midfielders cracked.
talkSPORT sources understand that United hope to finalize a deal for Casemiro in the coming days and could unveil it as a morale boost against the Reds on Monday.
And even if he doesn’t qualify to play in time, Erik ten Hag might be well advised to let Casemiro talk to the squad pre-match in order to get the blood pumping.
