Already in a big rush for an Oscar, the film has been described as “ Thelma & Louise for the #MeToo Generation, ” following the 1991 road movie that showed two women taking justice to each other over a sexual attack.
Promising Young Woman is written and directed by company beauty Emerald Fennell, who was talented nurse Patsy Mount on the BBC’s Call The Midwife and plays Camilla Parker Bowles in Netflix’s latest controversial The Crown series.
The film stars Cassie, played by Mulligan, a 30-year-old medical school dropout on a mission to avenge the rape of her best friend and the suicide that followed.
By day she has a dead end job in a cafe but at night in various bars and clubs she pretends to be drunk to pick up men who see her as an easy target.
They soon learn differently, as Cassie ruthlessly does her own justice.
