Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger Fan posters created by Nicolas Tetreault-Abel have fueled nostalgia for Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Marvel Shared Universe began in 2008 with the release of Iron Man. Iron Man marked the beginning of the first phase of MCU films, and would go on to include Thor and Captain America: The First Avengersultimately leading to the release of The Avengers in 2012. Now, fast forward 10 years to today, and the MCU is currently in phase 4, with the lineup for phase 5 and phage 6 already set.
MCU Phase 4 will end in November 2022 with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Meanwhile, Phase 5 will kick off soon after with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February 2023. Meanwhile, Phases 5 and 6 are expected to encompass a wide variety of MCU movies and TV series, such as Secret Invasion, Daredevil: Born Again, Avengers: Kang Dynasty, Love at first sightand The Fantastic Four. Despite all of these exciting new projects on the horizon, viewers still hold strong ties to the Phase 1 characters who laid the groundwork for the MCU.

The Captain America: The First Avenger poster has a dark tone, with a fiery red tint that perfectly captures Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his allies as they rally against Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). Fan posters capture all the elements of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger that audiences originally loved about them. As another whole generation of heroes quickly emerges, viewers can’t help but be drawn to the iconic and groundbreaking nature of the very first MCU heroes and members of the Avengers. While Thor, thankfully, seems to be returning for the next phases of the MCU, we can’t help but miss Rogers. Especially with the MCU moving from the Infinity Stones story arc to the multiverse saga, there’s always the question of how characters like Rogers, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlet Johansson), and Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) would have reacted to the most recent threats, heroes and events in the MCU.
While there’s certainly been an empty place where past MCU characters once stood, fan posters show that their legacy will still live on in works past. Even though it’s been over a decade since these films were released, they are still receiving reimaginings from creative and dedicated viewers today. Meanwhile, the nostalgia these posters evoke in fans confirms the iconic and lasting impact of these films. No matter how many MCU Phases pass, there will always be room to reminisce about the MCU Phase 1 movies that started it all – Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.
