A California resident who was vaccinated against COVID-19 died hours later – and authorities are trying to find out why.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced the death and investigation on Saturday in a Facebook post, but gave few details.
The county, which is in the greater Sacramento area, was “recently notified” of the person’s death, police said.
The person had tested positive for the coronavirus in December and had been vaccinated hours before his death on January 21.
There was no indication which vaccine the person had received.
“There are several local, state and federal agencies that are actively investigating this matter; any report concerning the cause of death is premature, pending the outcome of the investigation. Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased, ”wrote the sheriff’s office.
An autopsy would be done on Monday, the sheriff’s office told the CBS affiliate in Sacramento.
